Drone Registration Part 2

I just registered to fly my non-purchased drone. The registration is good for three years and covers all drones you fly. It is worth getting it for free this month if you are considering it now or in the future.

Moto X (2nd Gen) and Moto 360 Combo

I purchased a Moto X 2nd Gen and Moto 360 combo at AT&T on 06 August 2015. This will be a running blog about the daily usage of these two devices.

Highlights
Day One note. My advised preparation sequence is:
1. Install all updates on both devices.
2. Connect the phone to the watch using the Android Wear app.
3. Finally, install all other apps on your phone.

19 December 2015
I'm starting to get a yellow battery icon on the Moto X and once the battery hits 11% I have to charge it or it will randomly just die. This could be because of the colder weather and I am using more graphic intensive apps. The watch is working well and I have learned some new watch faces to help me with knowing the time in multiple time zones.
I have the 16 GB Moto X. I recommend getting at least the 32 GB. I am constantly getting an out of space error.

Day Six note. Problem research complete.
1. I cannot make calls from the Moto 360 because I use the selective call feature in Google Voice.
2. You cannot create a new hangout using the Moto 360, and therefore cannot send messages using that service. You can reply to a message that was sent on the communication channel.
3. Turns out that the heart rate sensor issue was because the plastic was still on under the watch. It still didn't like taking my heart rate while I was riding my bike.

18 August 2015
Final thoughts after twelve days. Moto360 performs very well for basic operations, however, the battery dies fast after using the navigation feature. The Moto X performs well for the most part. I think with the proper setting adjustments I will be able to get the battery to last all day. One of these adjustments will be to shutoff WiFi and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth is required for the watch integration so I am unsure how that will work out in the end.

12 August 2015
Hit the Moto 360 watch face, with a swinging walking arm, on the corner of a drinking fountain. No damage was done to the watch. (+1 to durability). Battery life was at twenty-four percent on the Moto360. The Moto X was left with five percent at 22:52. The Moto X was charged to 100% at 12:00 it was at fifty-five percent at 14:12 when I recharged to one hundred percent at 17:50 when I left work. I will add screen shots later.

11 August 2015
The Moto X needed charged today in the middle of the day. It lasted until 13:00 and still had twenty-five percent. I left it on the charger while I was in a meeting. Interestingly my watch still received notifications through three walls and separated by a total of thirty or so feet. The Moto360 was at fifteen percent after sixteen hours. I am become more pleased with this performance of this device. I will be putting it under additional stress on a longer bike ride in a few days. The Moto X made it to thirty-six percent after the refresh charge. I did some research that I was having with the devices and it looks like I am out of luck. Here is what I found: Problem research complete.

10 August 2015
Used the Moto X for four hours (stream music) three hours of hotspot sharing. Plugging in the Moto X, it is at forty-three percent. Moto 360 is at eighty-three percent. The watch performance is pleasing compared to last week it lasted all day and had seventeen percent after fifteen hours of using it for music navigation and notification management. The phone was fully charged at the end of my work day but went down to three percent within five hours. probably because it was being used more in the evening and was also being used as a hotspot.

09 August 2015
Moto X lasted 10 hours today. I streamed music all day and overall light use. I attempted to charge the phone using a "regular" charger when visiting my parents, but their charger didn't add enough energy to start the phone. Once I got home the Aukey (Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0) had the battery to sixty percent in a short time.
The Moto 360 surprisingly lasted all day and still had thirty-two percent after twelve hours. I did not use navigation today. I mainly used it to control my music and view notifications. I attempted to text and call using it but I still need to work out the Google Voice issue.

08 August 2015
I was disappointed with both devices this afternoon. I used the watch and the phone for 2 hours in the morning. The watch was already at eighty-five percent and the phone was at eighty-four percent. I only used the watch to control music and check/dismiss messages. I used the phone to play music and an hour of a hotspot. The disappointment came later in the morning. I started a bike after a short charge to ninety percent. The phone did not last the entire five hour bike ride and the watch ended with three percent. This was under heavy use; I was: using Runtastic RoadBike Pro to track my ride, navigation to assist with my route, stream music, on top of typical use. The quick charger got my battery up quick and I was able to use the devices, in a normal manner, for the rest of the day.

07 August 2015
This is my first day of actual use. I have mixed feelings about Android Wear. I like the ability to control my music and look at messages without opening my phone. I use my phone half as much for small tasks like that. I was unable to find the Moto Health App for the phone that was installed on my watch. I ended up installing the Google Fit app, which seems to work well. I do have the problem of only being able to view the historical heart rate data on the watch and not on my phone. Over all battery life was alright. The watch lasted for all of my eleven hour day and ended with nine percent when I got home. I charged the phone periodically throughout the day, I'll get better battery statistics as this blog goes. I needed to charge the phone at least twice because I had it under an extreme web, music, and graphics load. No steps were taken to optimize battery performance. Some of the issues I have is that I have to talk to my watch to respond to a message. This is not a problem in the car but is a problem in the office. Google voice integration. Major issues using Google Voice, my phone is set to select which number to place calls from. I am unable to place calls directly from my watch. The same issue is present for hangouts and messengers. It automatically sends from my cellular number. I hope to find a solution to these issues within a week. If I find a resolution then I will not need to use my phone very often for typical phone use.

06 August 2015
Purchased the Moto X and Moto 360 combo. I performed the updates on both devices. I got to play with both of the devices for a little bit while I was performing the updates. My advised preparation sequence would be: 1. Install all updates on both devices; 2. Connect the phone and the watch using the Android Wear app; 3. Finally, install software on your phone. Why is this sequence suggested? It will allow the most updated apps to connect to your watch without requiring reinstall. It was interesting to see how the watch gained functionality over the updates.
